Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Clinical Research Centre, Cambridge
Site specific work | Microscape 2017 | 3 Panels Corten Steel
Three imaginary landscapes (screens) that map visually the 3 main users of the Hospital:
Patients/Visitors, Doctors/Nurses, Bio Medical Research Staff
Patterning’s both medical and culturally are a key component of the works visual language. Patterning is accessible, referential, calming, it creates an instant visual access across a wide range of people and demographics. The Screens are envisaged as a cellular, cultural map/landscape that reflect the diversity of people who use, visit, and work within the hospital from across the globe
The walk into and out of a hospital is a journey potentially fraught with anxieties for both patients and visitors. The screens are energetic, dynamic and affirmative in feel and can be read from multiple viewpoints. My aspiration was to create a work that revealed itself, over a long period of time as visitors and staff make multiple journeys into and out of the hospital entrance
