Expecting to Fly, After the Catalan Atlas | Primal

Primal

The Primal’s were a return to the primacy of early textile expression. One reason I became interested in textiles in the first place was the unbroken tradition, the ability of textiles to chart every aspect of what it is to be human. I’m drawn to work which is honest, expressive and visually inventive. The Primal’s first appeared almost fully formed during the preparation for my retrospective Forever Changes, at Ruthin Crafts Centre in 2012. The 2014 exhibition Elements of Place based on a residency at Namadgi National Park, Canberra, Australia developed this line of enquiry further.
