On the Way to a Little Way | Mapping

Mapping

Any journey requires a map, I’ve always liked instructional diagrams, especially the black and white images found in books like Theresa de Dillmont’s, Encyclopedia of Needlework 1886 or Cesare Vecellio’s Pattern Book of Renaissance Lace 1617. I’ve become increasingly aware that creativity is not just a linear progression. There’s a command on my embroidery software, return to origin which I find both amusing and philosophically intriguing. Clearly, I can’t go back in time physically but I can go back through space in terms of ideas. The aspiration is not to repeat but to find new associations and connections that might have been missed the first time.
