My interest in patterning grew alongside my fascination with historical textiles as a site for a contemporary artist to explore. Carpets were an initial area I choose to study, in particular how motifs are adapted and reinterpreted over time, charting cultural and historical interaction. I view patterns as encoded visual units; textiles form an unbroken tradition one filled with so many interconnecting ideas.
